Reception Class 1&2

The aim of reception class is familiarity and confidence with English through songs, crafts and play. We use letterland to learn the letter sounds as a strong basis to move on to the Reading Groups.

Reading Group 1

5 to 6
The first Reading Group focuses on learning phonic sounds, writing them and learning to hear them in words. The children start to read the “Oxford reading tree books”.

Reading Group 2

6 to 7
The children continue to learn phonics and progress in grammar and spelling. They also develop comprehension skills from texts, which are also used to inspire written work.

Reading Group 3

7 to 8
The main aim of this class is to encourage reading fluency, and to develop a love of reading. Creative writing is introduced through story telling (both spoken and written), along with regular spelling practice and simple grammar.

Reading Group 4

8 to 9
This class aims to foster a love for reading and words; ensure that spelling patterns are firmly established; develop knowledge of grammar; develop vocabulary and provide a variety of situations in which to use written and spoken English.

Reading Group 5

9 to 10
The class study different books by various British authors. Using their understanding of grammar and punctuation to produce work in a variety of genre including biographies, recipes, myths, and newspapers.

Reading Group 6

10 to 11
This year group work on improving grammar, vocabulary and creative writing skills. The class study at least 3 reading books and work on a current affairs magazine to develop curiosity and inspire writing skills.

Collège Class
Class Size

Years Old
11 to 13
The class continues to work on grammar, comprehension and spelling. The students will read and discuss at least 2 novels. The children will also write a play, that they perfom in front of their parents.
